In-development directory accepting submissions

    Hello everyone,

I've been working on a web directory for a few weeks now, completely coded from scratch. Features include account creation, site submission and editing, hit counter, directory search and SEO-friendly categories.

Although I'm opening up submissions to DP members, the site isn't open to the public yet as I'd like to have a bit of a dry-run to weed out potential bugs, plus to see if there are features that users would want different or added.

The search portion will be in ongoing development to refine results and increase relevancy. Currently the search takes into account the # of hits to a given site (using proprietary hit counter) and will soon include Alexa rank stats.

Also on the horizon is the option for users to include ALT text in the links for their listings, increasing SEO :)

The directory is currently found at http://www.knever.com/dev/ ... once I decide to make it public, it will move to http://www.knever.com (which currently redirects to the dev blog).

I'd love to hear all comments and will answer any questions anyone has :)

When i clicked on "Computer & Internet >> Web Directories" it leads me to "Arts & Humanities >> Directories" instead of internet >> web directories

Please let us know when you have fixed it, thanks!

Thanks to all submitters, will review and approve as soon as possible. Also FYI, one person has had problems with logging in, I'm currently looking into the problem. What can I say, with custom code, things go wrong :)

Thanks... I really like the directory as it does not just look like all of the others.

    Great Job!

Thanks, emmaonline, one of the reasons why I wanted to make this from scratch was so it would be different. Looks like I'm succeeding :)

It seems the login issue might've been user error (typo). I'm keeping an eye on it just in case. Also, all sites submitted have been approved. Thanks again!

I submitted one. I didn't receive a confirmation message so I am not positive it went through.

All sites have been approved as of 8:30am Pacific :)

I'll be sure to add an email notification. That was in the works but not a priority so I'll bump it up. Is there anything else anyone has noticed different or missing? I want to make the directory as useful as possible.

Also, there was an issue with certain categories not showing up correctly. This led to a few submissions (only those to "Web Directories") being under the wrong category ("Arts & Humanities > Web Directories"). I've edited the sites to place them under (what I assumed) are the correct categories. If anyone submitted to "Web Directories" I'd appreciate it if you could check the directory to make sure it's under the correct category. Thanks!

Hi, everyone, so far there hasn't been many things going bad with knever :) what few things were found were quickly fixed. I've also added features like email confirmation and account editing.

I'm putting out one more call here for submissions before opening up the public properly.

And as always, if anyone has any problems or suggestions, by all means let me know! Thanks!

From the Knever blog :) :

So far there haven’t been any more reported problems with the search directory. Plus, I’ve put in quite a few hours enhancing both the members area and the search function. I’ll be giving the search a bit of a internal make-over to take advantage of some cool database tips I’ve discovered in my research of search engines.

So as soon as that’s integrated, Knever will go public!

    Hi again, everyone,

Just letting you know that I'm temporarily turning off the "submit site" function so that I can integrate featured listing and backlink options (which Fox Lore provided without even being asked to, thanks!). As soon as these functions go in, the directory will be moved to knever.com and be fully public!
