I worked hard to get my keywords from Poor to ok, now I am trying to take it to great.

I have about 300 keywords. they all contain unique gift....should I break these up into smaller adgroups or keep them together because they are all related?

    unique gift idea
    unique gift for a man
    unique men gift
    unique birthday gift

    those are just some examples.

Have a look at this on how to improve quality score

Also, if your KWs are only at "GOOD" I would concentrate on increasing the CTR of your ads.

Also, make sure that you have them on exact match and phrase match, not just broad match...

Whether you can group these keywords together depends on the advert(s) that you were planning to write.

If your title is "Unique Gifts" you probably won't be penalised badly in terms of the relevance of your adverts. But the only real advantages in grouping them together are simplicity when monitoring their performance and speed when changing bids and advert text. If your campaign is relatively small (in terms of the number of keywords), then these benefits are quite small, and writing different adverts targetted at the different keywords is probably worthwhile...

    Hi Ranter,

I would have thought that 'unique gift' would give you a fairly narrow range of triggers for your ads. If I was looking for gifts I probably wouldn't use the word 'unique' so you're probably losing a lot of potential custom.

As Custard has said, it's a good idea to have sets of keywords that relate to specific ads which, in turn, probably link to different landing pages/areas of your site. For example, I presume you've got gifts appropriate for both men and women and these items appear on different pages on your site. If so, you could have a set of keywords that are aimed at people looking specifically for 'male' gifts and ads written to reflect that, with a destination URL going straight to the 'gifts for men' section. Likewise for 'women', 'kids', 'sports' and so on.

Personally I'd also be looking at some specific groups based on actual products. You'll have a good idea of what your bestselling product is and it's probably worthwhile having one or two ad groups targeted at this item in particular. For example, if the 'USB cup warmer' is a winner for you then it's likely that people are searching for this very item via a search and keywords, ads and a destination URL straight to that item could give very good results.

We may be able to offer some more specific advice if you let us know the URL of your site.

    Jon

I agree. On the other hand, bidding on "Gifts" probably isn't a great idea either - the chances are that you won't have what somebody's looking for - they don't even know what they're looking for!!

It's certainly easier to go down the route of bidding on the products that you have, rather than terms like 'gifts'. Your conversion rate will be dramatically better...

In regards to the "unique gift" groupings, with just the keywords you have shown here as an example, I would put each of those keywords into their own adgroup and use all three match types for each one.

It is hard to say for anything else since you say you have about 300 keywords, but the ones you listed above are different enough in my mind to warrant separate targeting.

Man and men are different targets and a birthday gift is certainly different from any other type of gift.

If you feel inclined do show the URL to your store as suggested. Everyone here is very helpful and can offer you tons of targeting advice.
