    Hello,

I have been adding regular content to my website and updating the xml sitemap. The new content gets indexed pretty quickly because of submission of backlinks on other websites. But cache of the home page & few category pages do not get update before 2 weeks. What could be the reason ? and What should I do ?

Thats Google for you it can be a mystery. Do you have backlinks to the category pages rather than just your home page - this might help?

Definitely back-links for the deeper pages will help out a lot with that. I also start with pushing main page first then as that grows i start increasing the number of pages I back link to. Slow consistent growth has always worked for me.

    Build Social Back-links
    Do some article marketing

Usually if you have a wordpress blog a plugin or widget that displays updated events on the home page can help quite a bit ... like recent comments.

Right, building backlinks from high PR (above 6) sources would be really helpful for indexing purpose, especially deep linking for those inner pages or sub categories. But I think you might no be able to modify your homepage regularly and thus have no more fresh contents for your homepage. So, I would like to recommend to include something like "tag clouds" feature on your homepage and change them according to the hot trends on your site. :)

    Have a nice day,

Are you on Wordpress? And are you using the XML sitemap plugin? If yes, what have you chosen as your change frequency?

You can got your site index improved by done in one on these 4 things.

    1. Time - You have to be patient and update your site regularly for a period of time. Googlebots will record your update activity and then set a crawling rate according to those update activity. For example, if your site has been updated daily for 10-15 days then Googlebots would know they have to come and cached your site everyday afterward.

    2. Backlinks - You have to find backlinks, both quality and quantity, both homepage and inner pages. It could help your site for being indexed faster.

    3. Social Bookmark - Let's take a look if some of your content are worth enough to be posted in popular social bookmark such as Digg, Facebook, Reddit. Got it posted and it could help your site index rate either.

    4. Set crawling rate in Google Webmaster Tools - This could be a final option. You should not adjust it unless your site is a new site and being updated in every 10 minutes. Google does always set optimum crawling rate for each site automatically already.

I have a blog, and when I post any content into the blog, within 30 second that page is cache in Google. I was in trouble what is the problem. Before some time My blog cache within 7-8 days to cache. Bust some days ago I submit 1 post daily for 5 days. Now, whenever I post any content, that page cache fast and within 30 second.

Thank you for your detailed explanation.

    1. Yes, I was not regularly updating my content. Previously I would not update anything for days and then suddenly I would add all articles that I could not each day. Now I have learnt that I have to be consistent. So I am making sure that I add one article atleast each day.

    2. I do have backlinks for home page from different blogs in a range of PR3-PR5. Hopefully in the upcoming week I will be able to get PR6 backlink. Although most of them are reciprocal links, but I believe that effect the ranking & has not much to do with indexing. Please correct me if I am wrong. I admit I don't have any backlink for the inner pages for which I want quick indexing. But I have drop that idea now as I want to focus on home page right now.

    3. I am doing that but that does help the indexing of inner pages fast i.e. that page from which the story is submitted.

    4. I see. I think I would not change at this time.

So bottomline is to be consistent and Google Bot will update itself with new crawling rate.

    Thanks.

It is a custom made website. and I generate the XML sitemap through a software I developed. The crawl rate is the default one. I have not changed it.

Yes, I have got the point that I have to submit the content regularly. My question that should I submit the content at a specific time ? or any random time of the day would do ? What do you do ?

Well actually previously I was not adding the content regularly (or rather consistently). Now I am doing it on daily basis. Thanks for your suggestions though.

No, I do not have backlinks to the category pages. I have dropped the idea of focusing on it at this time. I am focusing on improving the indexing rate of home page. Thanks

Set crawling rate? Can we really do that? I thought we cannot set the crawl rate.
