I have today made a new forum and I am wondering where to go with SEO, it is on a subdomain (Forum.MYDOMAIN.co.uk)

Can anyone help with advising me on how best to get a PHPBB forum to the top of the search results

    Thanks

Forums have always been a pain in the butt to get listed high. The best optimizing you can do is content, backlinks and wait.

You can also use IPB which uses lowfiversion which are basically html versions of your forums. This way it's easier to get into a se.

    Thank You

    1. Don't use a sub domain.... As far as I know, it basically creates two seperate domain name attributes in google.

    i.e.

    PR
    Back Links
    Content

    ..............

    So,

    forums.yourdomain.com - may have 110 backlinks, with a pr of 4.

    but...

    yourdomain.com - may only have 40 backlinks, with a pr of 3.

A waste, indeed. If you combine the sub domain name & your main domain name + a sub directory (aka domain.com/forum/), then you'll be fine.

    2. Next, I'd find a plugin that changes the post id into a seo friendly link.

    i.e.

bad: showthread.php?t=3894753485 (yes I know digital point uses this structure...)

    good: post-title-here.html

That should get you off to a good start.
