Hi everyone! This is my first post at Digital Point Hope to make a good long lasting impression within the community here. I run a tech site (php tutorial site). I started the site about 3 months ago. I get about 100-150 visitors with 300-400 pageviews a day from google and other referring sites. I've had ad sense published on my pages for about 2 months now. I recently started getting a click or two a day from last two weeks and my CTR is about 0.60% . By comparing and contrasting with others, i feel i don't get enough clicks? Some people believe that it is hard to convert from programming tutorial sites? But i have reason to believe otherwise because there are 1000 of tutorial sites related to programming and they must be make something. As per my ads, I sometime notice that some pages don't display relevant ads. For example, a page about "php strings" will displays ads like "Guitar strings". I don't know which pages are generating clicks? Is there a way i can see which of pages are generating the clicks? I use google anaytics for tracking. Thoughts inputs? p.s. not sure if im allowed to link my site here, so people can see?
it's very common for google to serve up ads that are triggered off of the wrong keyword... i've been going 'round and 'round with support about it. have you tried to use section targeting on the page?
One of the easiest things you could do is some on page SEO. Bold some PHP keywords, use proper headings, etc. This may help in getting some more targeted ads. I would assume that you site will have a slightly below average CTR as people are finding what they want by coming to your site. People would spend more time on a tutorial site, flipping back to their PHP editor, and trying the code out. When people are done with the tutorial, they would normally close the browser and go back to coding.
you can not track which pages are getting clicks but you can track which ads type is getting clicks with suing adsense channels
Actually not quiet correct (but might be wrong aswell). Apart that you can create channels for each page (but that would of be a damn long list of channels) you could also (i heard that lately it has had problems) download and install adlogger which will notify you EXACTLY on which page the click was made.
Hi everyone, i'll link my site here. its php-learn-it.com (i hope i don't get banned for this). i often try to do that, use bold letters. I set my heading using H2 and subheading using H3 tags. you're quite right about that because that's something i do as well while looking up for a solution to a problem regarding coding. I have that set up as well. But i use the same channels on ever pages. Like someone suggested using different channel for every page would be crazzzy. But i think the programming niche is harder to convert than non-technical niches? People often visiting these sites are ad blind. I know, i tend to ignore ads when i visit tech sites. But that makes you wonder how some big tutorial sites survive if they can't generate enough from ads?
the ad targeting on your site is really fubar... an ad for popphoto.com on the ajax edit page, for instance. google up "ajax", and look at all the ads that use that keyword. like i said before, look at section targeting.
I made some changes now. The ads are more relevant now. But the the first and 2nd bloc are repeating the same ads. i use channels but i can't track individual pages. How can i do that? php-learn-it.com
Techie people are so used to AdSense that they just ignore it. Ad blindness is massive for tech sites. Your placement looks good, but I've found that for longer text articles, putting a 728X90 adblock in the middle of the article helps. If CTR is too low for you, consider moving to CPM ads like ValueClick, etc.
