    nice thread, very useful

    another thing you should mention, is to think about traffic instead of PR
    before adding any link to your site, weather it's a backlinck or reciprocal,
    you should ask yourself: if there weren't any search engines, will this link
    still be worth anything?
    or in other words, how many useful traffic this link can manufacture for your site

    I prefer to stick with Google for that, I don`t just check for backlinks, but also their website name and a few keywords added to that. I want to find the sites which provide the most important and therefor strongest links.

    I look at the meta info on competitors as well, but actually, I like using yahoo to check for back links.. I'll compare them to google, but I start with yahoo.

    Good morning. I am new to this site and internet marketing in general. The OP suggested looking at a site similar to mine and clicking on view, source to see what keywords and tags they are using. When I do this nothing comes up. Any suggestions?

    This is impossible, unless they don't have any meta info which would be stupid.
    Maybe you can link to a site and we'll let you know the info to look for.
