Hi! I have a website that currently shows up as the 4th google result when you search for a key 2 word phrase. I want to get it to number 1 (lol doesn't everybody?) What steps would you take to try and get from #4 to #1? +rep for good answers!
Being ranked 1 i not always good...when I did PPC I noticed that if I positioned myself as 1st, I would get x number of clicks and if I positioned myself as 3rd I would get x+more clicks...I think as long as you are above the fold, you will do well and it sounds like you are

Try to get lots of backlinks, and use your keywords in anchor text. Also, try to get some backlinks from high PR pages.
I heard that maybe you can check the #1, #2 and etc. to know who links them? then 1. try to get links from same site 2. or just think out an idea to cut the links,
