Ok, I've been running adsense on three sites for a week and not getting too many clicks - e.g I think I still have to work in October  . What would be a bottom line impression to click ratio, below which it's time to reevaluate the ad layout or make some changes the sites.

Depends a lot on the type of site. Content sites should shoot for 1.5 to 8% Forums are around .5 - 1.5% In my experience anyway.

Sorry for asking: how do you define "impression to click ratio"? Which impressions on which clicks do you mean?

    Thanks in advance!

I'm just looking at the total impressions [pages displayed with ads on] vs. the total number of times ads were clicked - for the last week.

The most important figure is the visits number. The most visitors you have the most clicks you get.

Yeah, # of unique visitors is a much better measurement. If you have a higher CTR, the page views per visitor will go down. They click ads away. it's a good thing

For example, a "normal" user enters on a website without good content and sees the Adsense ads, wich are related. They wonder, this are links to other websites or to other pages of the website *click* you earned a couple of cents, or maybe some bucks... Multiply this by 1% to 5% of your visitors and you will have some great earnings.

Anyway, i've read about two or three people that receive a lot from Adsense, but this is the INTERNET and everyone says what they want (you can use another username so you don't need to build a credible reputation to it).

As for me, Adsense does pay the web hosting bill and all my domains, but all my websites are in Portuguese. My objective is to get about $100 to $150 a month so it pays my lunch during the entire month :D (dream...)

On one of my sites I'm targetting pages that tend to get visitors that are not potential customers, on certain pages, if they enter on that page from a Google search, they were looking for something else, so losing them to an Adsense ad, can only potentially get me money. Anyone who goes to that page from the main page, is a probable customer already, and most likely won't go to Adsense.

The good news, since I posted this thread, my click ratio on that site has become acceptable over the last few days. If it keeps up, then I will be quite happy.

Or the more your site is boring, the more clicks you get! :)

    Just joking :D

So that's why people click the Mesotholyaddayadda ads. Because the topic is so boring/drawn out that people click to get away from it and call a lawyer to figure it all out for them.
