10.000 impressions and 5 click, says simply '10.000 visitor saw your ad and 5 of them clicked'. It means, the keyword which triggers your ad and your ad's text are too different. Solution is easy, optimize your ad. What I do is, 'you may have better solutions', create one ad text for every keyword or group of almost same keywords and the ad's text must be keyword rich. Then fine tune it.

    Good luck.

Add some negative keywords too to make sure it does not show up for some irrelevent terms

Exactly as Magda says - you're seeing so many impressions and so few clicks because the content network is switched on. The content network is (generally speaking) useless traffic - I've never really got anything with it - turn it off and concentrate on search

Actually, he doesn't say content is turned on but we assume it is with such a low CTR.

Non-relevant keywords might be the problem but can't say without looking.

His problem might be a very competitive web hosting niche. Having managed such a campaign before, it seems people will only click on the top three or so ads and rarely the ads on the right side. Of course, those positions are expensive. I've seen the same thing happen with other niches such as SEO services.

You need to create better ad variations. Try putting keywords on your headline. Using price and discounts on headline works too. Oh, and make sure the keyword your bidding on is relevant to what you're offering. PM me if you need professional help.

We could probably start an entirely new thread with this, but I wouldn't say content targeted ads are useless, even generally speaking. They can provide value in other ways that are sometimes intangible, like providing lift towards your search or email campaigns(based on the added exposure), and even directly by using copy that's highly relevant to the publishing site. Just like an form of advertising, you need to provide a compelling call to action, and find a relevant audience for your message.
