I do article submission, directories, forums, blogs, daily unique content , page optimization, link building (all legal), don t buy links, ect... Basically everything that is said on this forum. I have succeeded very well on most on my keywords by ranking on the top 15. (most of them have less than 50 000 hits/month) For one particular keywords that has over 150 000 hits/months, I am unable to rank in the top 100. For harder keywords, what additional techniques should I be using to boost ?
Consider finding authority sites that are similar to your sites theme but not competitors. You can ask this site if they are willing to accept paid text advertisements. Hope this helps, good luck!

We must think about making more strengthful site. Need to add new pages and content regularly and then creating high authority sites backlinks. Its true indeed, more competitive keyword takes a lot of time for getting under top 10 or top 20 but SEO can do any magic i believe. First we should prepare a strategy about to get more and more traffic though any medium say it is direct traffic, referrals , social media and then backlinks on continue basis. Site should have atleast 100+ pages to be target on a very generic keywords having all unique on page optimization implemented over the site. Once google will see continue traffic over a site, it will start giving some preference and you will see better results in organic rankings too. Do you know, in beginning few webmasters do PPC for a client site just to get some traffic initially and which makes a preference in view of Google as well, if traffic coming and then organic results also changes. So try to get more and more traffic from various sources, add fresh pages frequently over the site and a solid link building campaign in related category sites. I must say, site will rank. here is an ideea that i know for sure. . when it comes for getting on top 10 Google the rules are hard, because you are facing your biggest competitors. for example i have a client that needs to reach on top, but he had a competitor, who has indexed like 10 million links ..wow..imagine that.. My opionion is that if you want you need patiance and SEO work, lot's of it. it calls competitive links, and you need to work on your competitors links, starting from your strategic keywords. If you need any help in this, i can tell you that this work last like 1 year at lest.. you need to index your link there where your competitors have .. Good luck in business!
Apart from link building there are other factors involved in rankings, such as TrustRank, site age etc.
You need to concentrate on getting high quality backlinks. That will move your site way up in high competitive keywords. For example, getting a backlink from relevant PR8-9 page with your preferred anchored keyword and dofollow that has low outbound links will certainly give a boost to your ranking. Try to concentrate in quality link building service instead of getting non page ranked backlinks or non relevant backlinks.

If you are doing everything but don't get results then keep patience and track all records because if that keyword has more competition it will get some time to rank well in search engines.
To enable your site rank higher on the major search engines, it is important that you submit your site to the relevant directories. Using irrelevant directories for site submission would do no good to your site but will further tend Google to ban it considering it to be a spam
