that's good, I have close to 1000 pms now..

May I ask you Shawn, do you really code it all yourself? Because I think I haven't seen this hack in other vb forums..

Yeah... even if there is something out there already I don't bother to check because I don't really trust other people's code as much as I trust my own. The exception being the image gallery and iTrader (although I made some changes and fixed some bugs in both).

Why dont you guys start custom subscriptions here at DP ? Requesting a small pay for increasing PM boxes or such additional services, which will help maintain additional disk/server costs ??

I am sure, there will be a vast majority of end-users including me, who will opt for these advanced membership cause I do not wish to delete my PMs which are xxx days old...

    Small Reason:
If an end-user (member of DP) enters into a contract with another user from DP, for links/domains/custom codes buying/selling, PM communication via DP, helps to remember about the months old conversations/deals..

    Try consider implement the same...

Because trying to manage subscriptions and collecting money for stuff gets to be too annoying.

It's not about hardware or disk space (there is plenty). I'm just an efficiency freak and at some point storing gigs of PMs in the database is a waste IMO.

As far as remembering old stuff... that's why you can download PMs. Take the money you would have given for a subscription and buy yourself a USB drive or something that you dedicate to storing nothing but DP PMs if you really want to keep them separate from your other stuff. ;)

    Hey Shawn,
I agree managing gigs of PMs is a big pain when it comes to forum/site upgrades.. nice to understand there are no cost issues involved for same..

There is no problem downloading PMs directly to an USB drive or my mobile devices :).. but its for our effeciency. As a practise end-users prefer to keep there deals in PMs on the site/forum itself (unless and until they enter into some big trasactions)

If you really made up to delete the PMs which are 365 days+ old... i will recommend setting up some conditions which will only delete PMs for users who might have not visited the board in last 150+ days and there PMs are more then xxx nos.

this shall definetly help out reduce lot of wasted space...

Sorry man... it's going to happen. It's slightly annoying for me too (like there are 4 PMs that I wish I didn't have to bother downloading), but I figure if I'm going to make others do it, the same rules should apply to me, so mine are going to be waxed too.
