Let me introduce myself, short and sweet I am a submission service provider. Well most of you might have been wondering why in general web a 100 Directory submission costs $16 whereas in forums even 1000 submissions costs just $10 sometimes.

If you had browsed various service providers in gen. web you would have noticed that a nearly constant rate of $16/100 submissions.

Well it is so costly (atleast we think it is) outside because they are established as a company/website and they are answerable while in forums it isn't the case. So its confirmed that they are doing the job correctly.

    Motive of Directory Submission :
To gain Free, High-Quality, Permanent, One-Way, Relevant backlinks.

Now let me briefs how worse a directory submission can be done and yet prove a quality submission in outside.

    1. Confirmation Mails :: First and foremost, the buyers think that more the confirmation mails, the better is the submission. Thats false, how ?

    • There are submission service providers who themselves run a huge network of directories as a part of their advertising campaign. Reason ? They would advertise via confirmation mails. Because thats an effective trick since it catches the relevant customers straight.
    • And the worse part, every such combined networks of directories obviously are run from same IP.
    • Usually you cant re-submit to the same directory twice and hence only one confirmation mail arrives from each of them but this chain of advertisers DISABLE that option and you can submit multiple times to the same directory and every time you will receive the confirmation mails.
    • Since their ulterior motive is to spread the ads, definitely they are least bothered about reviewing or approving your links or even if its approved, naturally they are of no value.
    2. Page Rank ::

    • Well directories have Grey bar or PR 0 or PR 1+ and this is very very important. Getting 100 High PR submissions is far better than getting 1000 PR Grey Bar/PR 0 but dont underestimate low PR directories too.
    • Why I am saying this ? Because all those Grey PR or PR 0 directories are those that usually fall under Service providers ntw as discussed above or directories that dont have CAPTCHA or similar security.
    • And these are the directories that are 90% and above present in database of (or capable of submission via) Automated software's.
    • There are some directories that states that the link will be valid only for 30 days or so and later on you have to re-submit.
    3. Types of Directories submission procedure:
I already discussed some here http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=12481400&postcount=56

Many popular directories have "submission by category", its where you tunnel down to the deepest relevant directory before you could access the submission form. Thats a tough task and most of the people would avoid it since its time consuming, though it may be an important directory.

Same is the case for forms with Ajax, Javascript spam check, E-Mail submission, Registration & Activation before submission, Checkbox based category selection and others which software's cant deal. [If anyone opposes my point of view, you are free to post it under this thread provided your aim is to help others and not just to do your promotions]

There is always a huge difference in category selection. Movie reviews category may be present in one but not in other.

"Movie Reviews", "Movie", "Entertaintment", "Arts" doesn't carry equal weightage. A automatic software CANNOT THINK and select.
    4. Errors in Submission
There are lots of errors that could occur during submission

    Guidelines violation
Not adhering with the character limits
"Title is not unique in the parent category"
    "Category full, use sub-category"
    "No-Follow attribute" submission options
URL already exists. It might have been submitted in wrong category.

    5. Niche Specific/Regional submission/Deeplink Submissions
Dont under-estimate the importance of these two. If you dont have time to submit all, atleast take your own time to do niche specific submissions.

    6. Bannable words
There are some predefined words that should be avoided. Most of the words are common and everyone should be knowing that while I found replica, duplicate, illegal etc words also likely to create trouble

    7. Mail Activation:
Many directories require you to click on activation links in Mail, which is really very important, but it doesn't mean they are important directories or they are directories that are sure to accept/approve your site.
    8. Directories that is sure to approve
How to find out ? Thats difficult. But one thins can be done which I have been doing. I always search for "approved" mails and do some parsing and other techniques and find out via Mr G that which are the directories that have approved the links that I have submitted. So collect them and give them more importance next time.

So what can you do ? The first and best option is to use some firefox addon or IE addons that could help in filling forms or use some clipboard managing application and copy paste using shortcut keys. The best person to do the best submission for your site is you, yourself or find a trustworthy service provider.

When you dont consider all the above neither you will find the importance of manual submission nor the importance of directories itself.

I didn't discuss many obvious points. Am willing to answer anyone's queries. I dont want any harassment, fight or rude comments.

Edit: Obviously this isn't a service thread.

    Wow

You abviously are so experienced in this field.
I myself tried once to write a program for directory submission and found out that most worthy directories are too irrigulare to be classified easily and that's why I realize how deep and extensive your post is.

While it may not be a "service" thread it doesn't sound like much more than just an "advertisement" for you and your services.

I'm going to guess that very few in this sub-forum are "wondering why" you charge what you charge for your services, or why you feel you need to justify your pricing and why you feel your service may be superior.
