Alright everyone, I am currently redoing one of my sites and it is taking me a little more time than I first expected and its causing me to lose some customers. I do have another site that sells the same things and a little more. Would it be beneficial to temporarily redirect the under construction site to the other until I get it finished? If so, will this mess up my search engine rankings? This is an urgent question. thanks!
I would use mod_rewrite rewriteEngine on rewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST}!^www\.desireddomain\.com rewriteRule ^(.*)$ htt p://www.desireddomain.com/$1 [R=permanent,L] Code (markup): I think it is safe.
yeah, I know how to do all of that, but what I want to know is if I do it, will it screw up my rankings on the under construction site. The redirect, if done, should not be permanent, that would do me no good!
It may affect your a rankings a little but they are affected more if your site shows up as under construction. Besides the key is to draw traffic and if you are losing customers because of the down site, the little chance of a ranking drop is less important than the keeping your current traffic.
I just want to do a temp redirect for a little bit until I can finish the site. People can still go on the site and do everything, but they cannot purchase anything and the se's can still crawl the site. You wouldnt know that it is under construction, just that the purchasing a product doesnt work. Is it still worth redirecting for the time being?
Well its not the same and doesn't have the exact same products. One site has electronics and the one I want to redirect to also has electronics plus more, so I cannot just redirect them to the new site. It runs off of an API!
