whenever you place a bid on a domain at auction and your the winning bidder, do you have to pay that same amount yearly to keep it?

or is it just the normal $10 renewal price just like when you register a domain that hasn't been thought of yet?

You don't mention which auction, but the general idea is that you are just buying the domain from the previous owner in an auction format so you would just pay the normal renewal fee at that registrar or you could even move it to a new registrar once you own it. Unless it is some unusual sale, you would not own yearly payments to the seller - that would be more like renting or leasing a domain name.
