I got a mail from Godaddy saying the same things. (the mail was plain text - not as usual mail from godaddy full of graphics) I loggined to my godaddy account and did the update. Hope i am not scammed.
It's not a scam. I received the e-mail from Godaddy. However, if you got scammed it was probably because someone took advantage of this. Didn't you check the link to see if it takes you to Godaddy?
I think u guys are right! usually godaddy sent out in a graphical method! but this dude sent out as a plain text. For sure, taht dude is seeking advantage of that! The thing i did was to click on the link he sent! worst mistake ever!
If you ever see emails like that, manually type in "godaddy.com" in your browser and check their latest news to confirm it. Never click any links from an email...not even a legit looking one.
I really thought it was a scam/spam.. I did not receive any email from them on the email address registered with godaddy.. but I receive one from my other email address, but I did not use it with go daddy.. so I thought it's impossible they don't have email address of their clients. good thing i did not fall into this..
It's a scam guys.. Don't fall for it. Put it this way...For all you guys out there with domains that you have had for years and years....why would you get this email just now?? Think about it. It's phishing and looks like Toby was caught by it. I paid no attention to it...wanna know why? Anyone can get your registrar details from a heap of web sites. It's easy to put together fake emails and send them. If it were real then EVERYONE would get at least one and it would be all over these forums. I have over 1,000 domains and only received 4 emails about this. It's a scam and nothing else. Col
BTW the ICANN confirmation page does exist on Godaddy's page and opens a https: link https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/icann/domain_search.asp?isc=touchdown3&ci=7068. I doubt their ICANN domain confirmation request is scam. ARonald
Sorry I did not point my point well before.. What I meant was one could try the private key received, at the godaddy home page url ICANN verification section. (https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/icann/domain_search.asp?isc=touchdown3&ci=7068). It does not require one to login to a godaddy account unless one needs to make a change in the whois info. Also it isn't true that godaddy always sends a graphical mail. Contact change alert for example comes in a simple text mail. Its only when they send promotional offers do they send email with graphics. ARonald
