It's always a good idea to have as many REAL customer testimonials as possible.

This helps your customers trust you and you're more likely to persuade them to buy from you.

I use them on a landing page of a little 5 page website, i positioned them in a suitable place on the page, they fill some whitespace and i personally feel that they compliment the page.

Depends on the quality of the testimonial you use and how you use it. If you have actual testimonials from your previous customers, then it might be worth it. But, I've seen so many websites with testimonials with real testimonials; however, on their website they look so fake they turn people away. And.. there are way too many people putting up fake testimonials to make themselves look reputable.

It all depends on the quality of the testimonial and the actual use of it on your website. Make it look legit if you have real ones, because testimonials make or break many peoples decision to purchase or turn away on a landing page.

Another good place to put a testimonial is the Contact Page on a website. Some people hesitate or have a second thought before giving the information on a Contact Page. A good, and of course, legitimate, testimonial can be just the little push they need to complete the form.

Testimonials have been shown to increase conversions by a large amount, and therefore I believe they're essential.

testimonials are very needed because of human nature...

Try video and sound also to improve conversion.
