importance of email list for advertising my website

Hi, I sold on ebay for a long time, but have stoped selling because of paypal problems. I started a website selling the same products. I want to know if it is worth it to spend a lot of time going through each of my old ebay transactions to get my customers email address so I can send promotional emails for my new website. It seems like a good idea, but I want to know if it would be worth it since it would take a long time...
    Thanks for any help

As long as you provided a good service to them first time round I think it is definitely worth it!

It will take a long-time but why not collect all the e-mails and create a customer list (like a newsletter if you like). Then drop them a quick e-mail about your new site and as a cutomer they are already on the list. Say it will include fantastic offers etc.

That way they shouldnt mind being on it. And it will drive a bit of instant targetted traffic. And if they arent happy they can also unsubscribe and all is well!

    Regards. Chris.

    definitely worth the time.

but to guard against spam complain you should send an email asking permission to be put on your list. don't say "pls tell me if you want to be on my list." say instead "pls tell me if you DON"T WANT to be on my list." if you sell great products and you have a few repeat buyers then all they have to do to remain on your list... is nothing. i, for one, would prefer to do nothing then send a reply.

It is *definitely* worth getting in touch with past customers. They
are people that have proven their willingness to spend money, and
have demonstrated a desire to own your products.

They're the ones that are most likely to spend money again!

If you use a service like AWeber, you can import your customer list
and they'll automatically send out a subscription confirmation email,
in which the user must click a link to confirm their presence on your
list. If they don't click, they won't receive emails - and everyone's
    happy.
