Import duties from the U.S

I recently found a supplier in the U.S for something I have been searching a long time for.

The prices are very good, but I have no idea on import duties etc...

Basically it is for items costing $7 each (clothing) and an order would be for around $500 to begin with until I build up a trust. I know it may come down to weight and other things but has anyone got any ideas on what I may have to pay. I was going to ask the company but they may tell me they are not sure or a little porkie to get my order in, very unlikely but I would rather ask someone on here who has bought from the U.S before.

By the way the company has been trading years and I have done certain checks on them, so no problem there.

    Thanks for any help

Well, which country are you from ? Because if there is any import duties, it would be determined by your local government.

It will be 17.5% VAT on the complete cost of the order (ie product, postage, insurance etc) plus the duty.

Call HMRC and they will be able to tell you the rate of duty that is payable as it naturally varies based on the type of item.

    Hi
It depends on where you are importing to. As Astaroth said, you do need to check with HMRC (Her Majesty's Revenues and Customs) if you are in the UK or your countries Revenues and Customs office. There are sometimes restrictions on clothes and other items that you can bring into the country.

If you havent got a VAT number you can get a temporary pseudo turn number, just give customs and excise a ring, you will also need a commodity code for the item your importing to determine the tax rate on those particular items, Ive been importing for years so if you need any help just shoot me a pm.
