Import already existing blog onto host

If you create a blog with .wordpress can you import it onto a host?

you import your posts, pages, categories etc, thats the important stuff which you need, alternatively you can back up the DB, then import it into another wp install

the export/ import can be done regardless of whether it is a free blog or a self hosted blog
