Hi guys, I've been running celeb based comps in the UK for the past 3 years. The competitions are promoted in glossy mags- the first person to correctly identify a mystery celeb wins £10k cash. Revenue is generated through sms guesses. Due to increasing ad costs and new regulations, it is now more practical to transfer the concept online. Sms comps, however, do not work on the internet- too many scams have made the public very sceptical. Having studied other (successful) comp websites, I noticed that they are all free to enter, and revenue is generated by collecting data from all entrants, who must register their email address (and other personal info) prior to entry. My comp would offer a prize of £1k cash per week (or month) to the first person who solved the mystery. By clicking on a number of boxes, some boxes would reveal a clue, others would reveal an ad from an affiliate programme. Throughout the week, more boxes would reveal clues, and fewer ads until there is a winner. I have approached several marketing companies who are quite keen to work on this project, but they would be- they're happy to take my money even if it's a disaster! So, I am looking for honest, impartial advice. I have a budget of approx £10k to spend on a website and marketing- seo, email campaign, links from other (relevant) websites, and possibly a small radio campaign. The question is- can I generate sufficient revenue from collecting data from entrants, plus google adsense, plus an affiliate programme, to make this project profitable? I have also been advised to increase content by adding a community section, mobile downloads, online games etc etc. Can you recommend a good affiliate programme, and any other marketing strategies. Sorry if this message was a bit long, but it's important to get good, IMPARTIAL advice before taking the plunge! Many thanks in advance.
