Impact of rankings if I forward http to https?

    Hello,

We are thinking about redirecting http:// to https:// for our entire website by default (obviously for security). My main concern is if this would have any impact on our existing search engine rankings? We have very good keyword placements which I don't want to ruin.

Anyone have any idea about this?

    Thanks!

Why you need to redirect all your site ?

You can remove to https:// only the pages that really need SSL - Where the users put their data in.

Anyway ... If you'll use 301 redirect your ranking will stay the same ... If you don't know what '301 redirect' is just google it.

I'm not an expert in this, but I remember seeing a Matt Cutts video saying that you should change ALL backlinks to your site after a 301 redirect or else some link juice will get lost. With lots of backlinks that's easier said than done!!
