I had some thoughts that I had not seen discussed and I want some other people to weigh in. I made a post on http://www.brandonadcock.com/seo-tactics-in-regards-to-older-and-larger-sites/ about the impact of domain age on SEO tactics. I am wondering if older sites can leverage their domain age to increase thresholds for things like Keyword density. Any thoughts?
Sure, I have some thoughts (and a few 10+ year old domain names). 1) The domain age is hardly a silver bullet. It's one factor of many when it comes to rankings. 2) Testing your keyword density theory is the only way to find out. I doubt you're getting some sort of "on-page boost" because of your domain age.
In general, the older the domain name is, the more favorable a website tends to rank with search engines. Even though domain age is one of the factor..some critic says that it only gets a little weight in algorithm...
Does this include domains that age by being parked in your domain accounts or does it only help if they are posted live on the web?
well to demonstrate, I have a 6 year old PAGE, on a free domain, with practically 0 backlinks, and it is PR 2.
According to what I've learned.. the age of a domain is based on how long the content has been actually on the web, in promotion and how long it is been updated...it measures not only by the exact date the domain was registered but also how long it is registered..
I'm fairly confident that the domain age is a SEO factor, although I don't think an older domain will allow you to increse keyword density. I would of thought that Google would have the same rules for KW density regardless of the age. The only way we will ever know for sure is if someone has a few domains of different ages and has the time to test the thoery.
Domain age can be unfavorable with a domain at times because you lose a lot of backlinks when your link partners let their domains go. Also, if you don't update your site, that will count against you. Keep updating with fresh content and keeping track of your link partners and making sure their domains are still there and your links are still there and this well help tremendously.
If you want to analyze any web site at a single platform, www.SmartPageRank.com tool is comprehensive one. The older the domain name is, the more favorable a website tends to rank with search engines this tool shows the age of domain, number of backlinks and number of indexed pages in different search engines and last the approximate value of the website.
People lose links all the time, a good site continues to build them. Not to mention the longer a site is around, the more it builds brand power, which will cause you to build more natural links. I hope you're not advocating using a young domain because of this. Why do you think people pay extra money for older domains?
