I always add a description for my image's title and alt tags, as this helps with Google indexing my images and showing up for both Google searches and Google Image Search. I'm wondering if Google puts weight on the alt value vs the title value, or if anyone things one attribute (alt vs title) is more important with images?
I've always used the alt tag to enter the description of my images, and I get about 10% of all my site traffic from image search.
Alt tag is for images and title tag is for hyperlinks. For images you can use both alt and title tag.
Alt tag is good for SEO purposes and title is good to have but has not SEO influence... see this link if you want: SEO-Image-Optimization-tips
Alt tags and title tags are different, but both can be beneficial to image SEO. Alt tags can't be seen by the human eye, unless pulled up by page source, and is completely crawlable by Google. While title tags are also crawlable by Google, when hoovering over an image, title tags will usually show as well, or appear somewhere near it. Depending on how you have your CMS configured.
Alt tags are only good for SEO when the image is a link, in this case the alt tag is equivalent to anchor text
