For my website, the live football scores one in my signature I need to have images that are set to a certain width and height. However I've not got paintshop pro or fireworks or something to edit the size of the image.

MS Paint can sort of do it but leaves white blanks and keeps the image the same size as it was before.

What i'm looking for is something to edit the width and height of the images, so that the image stays viewable and doesn't get distorted. Preferbly something free or some tool that can do it online would be nice.

    Cheers

There are plenty of free image resizing tools available on the web. Here is one (note, I've never used it).
