Images vs. Text: Which does Google Update more??

    Never paid much attention but i'm in a race with a friend as to who can rank higher for a few keywords.

    Now i'm not a newbie when it comes to Wordpress or SEO, but comparing images to text only content, which would change positions in google searches more frequently?

    I'm considering setting up a blog with a bit of eye candy and loading my keywords in alt tags. I don't mean mash all the tags in all images, but focus on using alt tags as my main source for keyword placement.

    Positive? Negative? I ask because in the past I've noticed i've ranked well for certain keywords I've used in alt tags, but don't know if this method would pay off on a blog with easily more images than content.

    The image database gets updated a lot less frequently
