Images spoil alignment!

    I am creating a menubar here: http://www.etcworld.co.uk/

    It can be seen that the images makes the links (home, another link etc), move to the bottom of the bar.

    I want them vertically aligned in the middle, without the images everything works fine.

    What are the images doing that is leading to this?

    Ok, now the text is in some sort of vertical alignment.. the images aren't fitting in properly.. they are 1 px off fitting..
