Images Next To Ads - A Yahoo Response

    Hello,

I recently sent YPN an email asking them if my ad setup is allowed ( I put the ad on a dead page ).

It's a square/box ad (4 different ads) with a 50x50 image next to each ad. There is a gap of 15px between the ads and the images. Each image has a padding of 5px with a 1px dotted border around it.

    YPN said this:
So I'm going to try and put images more related to the content see what they say. My site is geared towards teens and the ad images are cartoon images. So yes, they're not that relevant.

    Good luck

I think the less you have to ask Yahoo about the better....my philosophy is that if I think it might be questioned, I don't do it...good luck.

Dont do it. If the TOS say NO IMAGES NEAR ADS, why even bother mailing the reps? Dont you think the people that write the TOS know more about TOS then rep guys? Just think. DONT do it. ;)

Seems to make sense that if the pix are contextually related to the page content, as Yahoo said, it would be ok, since they are also attempting to servce contextually related ads. I use thumbs made form pix from other areas of my website so they are definitely contextually related.

I've had images next to my YPN ads on multiple sites since last year... they've never said anything to me about it.

Just think of it like this. If you're an advertiser pay for people to click on your link wouldn't you be mad if someone was tricking people to go to your site? The traffic is ok but most people that get tricked stay on the new page for like 2 seconds then hit the back button. This means there is no way for that person to make you money.

Just to let you know.. I had gotten suspended before for having pictures that were in relation to my site and was told that it was not allowed...

I had asked the reps and they told me that it was... They are now looking into finding out so they can give better feedback to the publishers...

FAIR WARNING! DO NOT PUT IMAGES NEXT TO THE ADS! If you have them up take them off! Don't say I didn't warn you if you get suspended...

Without YPN being clear and offering concrete rules for this it will be difficult as some are getting one answer and others hearing something different.

Here's their exact quote they sent me regarding my site when I asked about images.....I'm sick of people yelling about images near ads. They ARE allowed as long as they aren't being mistaken as part of the ad. You can visit the site to see how they're separated.

    Hope it helps.

They probably have not seen your site yet. They probably have so many Publishers just like Adsense that they can't look at every site. They probably look at random selected sites on a daily basis.

No. It doesn't. Like the letter stated, my site is compliant. Clicksor banner was there when they checked it out. I'm not running any competitor PPC ads. Hope that clears things up further.

Read my post (#10). Read the quoted response FROM YAHOO. Not from some yahoo.

    According to his blog :

    http://www.shoemoney.com/2006/06/29/contextual-ads-image-tool/

On last tuesdays radio show Barry talked a bit about Yahoo Publisher Network now allowing these sorts of images and also made a post about it here. Evidently YPN is giving the green light as long as the images are RELAVENT
