Images: Does the advertiser care?

Although Google's policy has changed regarding images, would the advertiser care?

For example, if you have a site about cars, and image of a car next to the advertiser's ad on cars...maybe it'll get clicked.

Now the one who paid maybe 20 cents for the visitor to THEIR car related site just got a unique targeted visitor at the cost he agreed to. So why would Google care if both parties are happy?

Assuming Google DID allow it, but let the advertisers know in their terms or something that publishers may use images. So the advertisers decided to use search engine traffic only...Google then earns 100% of that click, instead of whatever they split with us.

It seems stupid for Google to decrease the value of their program.

I think the advertiser would care, because they want people to read the ad and then click on it, not think the ad was a link to a picture or another section of the site.

    I can see Google's point...

You can't be 100% sure that the images you display right next to the ads are highly relevant to the ads.

For example, you might have pictures of cars but one ad is for car waw - a visitor clicks the link thinking he's going to a site that sells cars... that could generate untargeted clicks.

The main problem with images next to ads is in misleading visitors. That's also why Google has modified the ToS. They don't want visitors mistakenly clicking on ads, expecting to find a product displayed in the image.

Take a PC hardware site for example. An ad might have an image of RAM next to it. The visitors sees the image and clicks on the ad since they are in the market for new RAM. Instead of a site that selss RAM, they land up on a site selling computer software.

The visitor isn't very impressed and the advertiser pays for a click that stands a very low chance of conversion. Not a good situation in my opinion.

Yes, the advertiser cares because if people are decieved into clickng ads it would mean the people are not likely to show much interest in the ad because they clicked on it without fully intending to. This could result in clicks that are much less likely to convert for the advertiser i.e. in a purcahse or any interest shown by the advertiser. Of course, it could also be that the advertiser does not have much to offer but it does not take away from the fact the click would have been only half, or in some cases, not at all, intentional.
