I don't mind image verification, but I prefer that webmasters keep it simple.

Having a seven letter image verification, offers no advantage over a three letter image verification - it just wastes time of the submitter.

Also, phpld users should opt for "Really simple image verification".

I understand that a Image verification is necessary, but some sites have a verification that is almost impossible to read. I try to keep it simple for my visitors, that why I use a simple 3 letter verification with easy to read letters.

    Image verification is not needed!

You can block spam a million other ways, just look into alternatives such as word filters, even with image verification on bots can still submit sites (some how). I tend to think that directory owners opt to put on image verification on because it's simpler (flip a switch). Blind people can't read them & that makes it an accessibility issue & people who want to submit many sites get put off because of the inconvenience, yea it might be once you have to enter 5 letters into the captcha field but times that by 20 or 30 sites you want to submit, whilst getting invalid code some of the time & you can see why people hate it so much.

Directory submission should IMO be made simple & made to not stress out submitters, after all you want submissions:p

A directory owner just needs to find an alternative to image verification once, whilst submitters have to deal with it many times over.

I do now due to the amount of proper submissions i used to get, but when my directories were free i never have image verification turned on either.

I will never have image verification on:)

I see nothing wrong with directory owners wanting to protect thier directories through image verification. If I truly like the directory then I am going to take the extra second or two to put in the code. But I do agree that if owners are going to use it then the codes should be easy to read to avoid having to it over and over again.

IMO it does not make sense to remove the image verification just to satisfy a handful of webmasters. I don't like waiting for my computer to boot up but it I have to if I want to get any work done, ya know what I mean.

I don't like captcha as you know from the previous thread. But I think there are other factors which make submissions difficult which should be included in a 'user friendly' directory. Such as: clear submission guidelines, whether it's a permanent or annual submission on the submission page (nothing worse than submitting and then find out it's annual).

While it might bother some, I find that it eliminates 99% of all spam/crap submissions. Anything a directory owner can do to free up his/her time to reviewing quality submissions the better from my stand point.

Besides, I only see it as a huge inconvenience if you are submitting a lot of sites. If that is the case, do keep in mind that many directory owners offer bulk submission rates and forms to make larger submission requests as painless as possible!

Captcha is a necessary of the two evils, the other being people who would otherwise abuse the non protected directory and spam the heck out of it.

To be honest, if you are not using these super cryptic cathpas like the ones used at DP and MSN search URL submit... it's not horrible.
Some of these things are impossible to read... Of course that is by design to make them more difficult for the bots.

Well let me ask ya this...

Would you risk someone not submitting 30+ sites with more then half being
fetauerd links and all quality sites?

well moneybags mystic and a few off us with many sites we wont touch it if you have capta turned on so
the choice is ultimately yours... (hint hint) lol

I don't use capcha on any of my sites but I will submit to sites that do in some instances if I get to much spam then I will just buy spam guard for that directory also
