I started a thread earlier about "image verification" as i am thinking about creating a directory or website that lists directories that are easy to submit to without image verification & registration etc. See this thread: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=392545 Some members brought up how much does image verification bother people etc so i created this poll to gather opinions
I read and responded to your other post. Guess no one really answered your original question. I think some sort of list of directories that are easy to submit to would be very handy. I'm just not sure what criteria you would use. I guess if I saw two lists, one with image verification and one without, I would choose the one without first. This doesn't mean I wouldn't submit to the others. I would just choose the easy list first and go through it.
It turned into a pro/anti captcha thread I thought a poll would do the job better as someone in the other thread suggested
I think it sucks but if I am going to submit to a directory I am going to submit if you know what I mean.
if you can get a list of directories that have no capcha great please provide one if you have time, if the list is large enough I would pay for it instead of taking 10 mins to submit to 100 with capcha I can do it in 5 without the capcha, with chris's form filler
I have a submission service and all kind of image verification are I have encountered.. some of them are giving the wrong images..
Well, though i don't like Image Verification, but i would still submit if directory have good PR or looks good.
I think you should amend the poll to include anti-bot style text captchas as some scripts (like phplynx) are now including them. BTW, here's a previous discussion on image captchas in directories.
I am with first poll "I don't mind image verification & would submit." and respect owner's spam protection
I got tried of submitting because of the image verification. Wasted my valuable time and was very frustrating. So, No I don't submit anymore to directories.
Maximum respect for that fact deluxdon. What legit submittor would be that bothered by a site owners safety net, as long as the anti bot isn't one of those fuzzy pics that trigger epilepsy I don't see any problems either. The one thing that does bug me is when I know I typed in the right answer and it says 'sorry you were wrong' aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.
I dont mind image verification, im sooner put off by having to sign up, but because so many seem to dislike image verification i decided to remove it from my directories. Also you probably see this message often from mystikmedia "Would you consider removing image verification" id hate to miss a sale for that.
If someone was a regular submittor you could do a deal with them to allow them special access, problem with taking it away completely is your going to get spammed unless you employ a 'must pay' or get your link auto declined method ala phpLynx. No one wants to miss a sale.
Image Verification is a necessary evil caused by SPAM -- kill all spammers & melt down their spambots
Hi The Pheonix, well the directories i removed image verification on i also made paid so i guess that stopped many submission, i notice switching to paid is like a spam blocker in itself, its like kryptonite to a submitter. But yeah with free ones i agree it will be a nightmare to totally remove.
