My directories are flooded with websites like http://www.1immigrationandnaturalization.com/ http://www.1carwax.com/ http://www.1carwax.com/ http://www.1autoaccidentlawyers.com/ .............................. the reciprocal link is definitely fake - something like http://www.1....com/link-3929 I'm going to ban this user People ask themselves why some directories are paid. That's why - to get rid of useless websites. It's taking me triple time to verify submissions when I get bad submissions like this one. And good sites have to wait very long because of these!
I know what you mean. I'm facing some websites like: www.keyword1--keyword2.com www.keyword1---keyword2.com Note the double and triple dashes... And you are right, most of the time, reciprocal links are fake...
I have them too! I also have something like keywords.keyword123.com I will show no mercy! Delete... delete.. delete....
And we have a better way to mass delete in 3.06 too. I was having trouble deleting all the spam in my directory.
btw here is how some add their reciprocal link - and I didn't even asked for one! lol http://www.biz-reviews.com/Partners.html http://alternativemonster.info/links-dirs.html I think I will ask 1 cent for each submission . symbolic but effective! from 1450 pending listings 986 were approved and 464 were rejected - this should be an alarm signal for any directory owner
Paid directories are the only way to go I am afraid. Even if it was $1 I still think this wouldn't stop spammers I am afraid - it would slow them down though. I'm launching a themed directory in August, and I'm going straight to a paid directory, because I haven't got time for free loading spammers.
I was not the only one spammed with those 1xxxxxx submissions! I just threw the verification up on my directories and poof! Whoever was doing that, is not anymore. Hmmmm.....instead of free links, pay one cent? Now that is a neat idea. Any idea how paypal would handle a bunch of penny payments?
ok - then we'll make the fee $31 cents there are many good websites which deserve free listings but because of these spammers I'm afraid it's not such an easy job and others place sites in wrong categories.. in conclusion 33% rejected submissions is a big number
The easiest way for me to distinguish spam is when the sites are submitted to the TOP category. I get around 30 per day. Get in the habit of checking it often and deleting the top category submissions, it really helps.
Apart from spam, I'm getting a lot of wrong category submission. I'm pretty sure these are from manual submission services as they all share the same email address. Imagine having a webmaster forum site submitted to Arts & Entertainment top level directory... DELETE <Click>
worse still are the reciprical links that are on a "linkfarm" page.. The dir spammers submit your directory to a linkfarm and then want you to include their site!
