    Use ALT & Title attributes and name your images/photos logical. For example.... Do not name your image DSC000001.jpg but DESCRIPTIONORKEYWORD.jpg

    Its important that your ALT tag (alternative attribute tags) is descriptive and meaningful. It helps to name the file with the keywords in them,and the image names must discribe the image itself.

    Do you really want traffic from Google Images? Will they convert? That is your call. Just make sure you don't get hit with high bandwidth bills that make the ROI in the red.

    You can optimize your images by doing these

    1. Filename - If it is possible, you should rename images filename to contain keyword. Ex. 1 If you target keyword is widget then rename to "widget.jpg"

    2. ALT Tag - As others mentioned above. ALT tag can help Googlebots understand about image description.

    3. Title Tag - This also help a little but not as ALT tag does.

    The code when put these code may be like this

    <img src="/images/widget.jpg" alt="widget" title="widget">

    Use Alt tags and Title tags, Plz do concentrate on the Keyword density. Don't completly go with the keyword, try and use variation in keywords in alt and title tags.

    Image optimization is the process of fine-tuning your images to provide for a quick load time without sacrificing too much quality. The Image Optimizer and photo editing programs such as Photoshop can help you compress your files for optimal display on your web page. So a measure to shot for is 200 to 400 pixels wide or high and about 30kb's in file size.

    Providing a alt tag with image source gives the best shot to SEO a Image. Backlinks to the page containing the image helps most.
