I'm not really that familiar with the topic but came here in hopes that someone has tried it before. This could very possibly be spider & user friendly.

Now, I under stand that naming your image file names could very easily benefit in the long run when getting indexed under Google images. Does this at all help your on page optimization?

For example purposes, lets say I'm working with cars, multiple categories & models.

    Example 1:
    /images/cars/mustang/gt/mustang-gt-1.jpg
    /images/cars/mustang/gs/mustang-gs-1.jpg
    /images/cars/lexus/ls/lexus-ls-1.jpg

    Example 2:
    /images/mustang-gt-1.jpg
    /images/lexus-ls-1.jpg

    Example 3:
    /images/cars/mustang-gt-1.jpg
    /images/cars/lexus-ls-1.jpg

    Questions:
-Worthwhile placing targeted keywords/keyword phrases within the image name?
    example:
    targeted keyword: car
    image name: car-mustang-gt-1.jpg

I always put keywords in my image names and in the alt tag too. It brings a lot of image traffic. Although the image traffic isn't that high quality. It has a higher bounce rate than the rest of my traffic, but some of it sticks to I'm glad to get it.
