Anyone here ever dive into image mapping? I started learning it seriously this last month, and put it into action on one of my forum sites. In the process of getting educated, I came across a program for the actual coding of the image map called Mapedit, which, so far, has been great. It's free, too. It basically lets you conveniently shape out the areas you want to make clickable and gives you the html code you can paste into the body of your page. Very easy, I loved it! Anyone have any experience with such programs and techniques? I am finding it very exciting. I always pictured communities actually looking like communities - a city, a fort, a town, whatever turned you on or helped create the atmosphere you wanted to radiate. I decided to go to try it with one of my sites and just said what the heck, make it the homepage, be different, take a chance. I haven't learned how to do java scripting for fancy effects, and need to study all the pros and cons more, but I went with the conservative standard deal just for now. Getting my feet wet, trying to pool my related skills and vision into things more. You can see my first stab being used as the homepage of one of my sites: http://www.forumownerservices.com/ I have a medieval village one I am almost done doing. I will make it a choice in preferences after I finish it up this week. I'm pretty excited about this new avenue as you can tell. I'm preparing to offer this type of service as part of my existing custom theming services. It's easy to see how there are some intense and wild directions this opens the door for. At least that is how it seems to me so far. Anyone else here ever dibble in image mapping? - Frank
you can also use Dreamweaver for image mapping. You can use basic or custom shapes to define the mapped areas. also you can edit very easily the target of the mapped areas
Hi there nebhotep, thanks for responding. If you created anything with image mapping I can take a peek at, lemme see. Cool stuff, isn't it? I played with Dreamweaver many years ago to make my first webpage (didn't even finish it) but never got to anything advanced like mapping. God that was long ago! I wonder what abilities Dreamweaver has over mapedit since Dreamweaver costs $.
