Image file names. Name it as it is, or as it is not?

I noticed that when I named images for what they were, like

    japanese_garden.jpg

    or japanesegarden.jpg

That the images people hot-linked to on my site increased.

If I changed them to jpnsegrdn.jpg, the hotlinking dimished.

My guess it than any display aside from my pages alone, diminished too.

Anybody else experienced the same thing? It seems that an accurately named image file becomes found much easier in an image search.

Do you prefer to have your images found that way, or do you prefer that your pics display only when a page is opened?

I name the images as I would name an html file I want to do some SEO on
lot's of hits come from google images so you better have it this way
you can prevent hotlinking from your server if you do not like it
