I have a webpage with a large image that loads on it. Right now, it can take over 1 minute to load when you first go to that page. The image is a jpg, 757kb. How can I get the image to load faster? Thanks!
By increasing the amount of compression when you save the image, but that also reduces the quality because JPG is a lossy format. There should be a compression/quality slider somewhere on the save dialog or the options panel. Move the slider until the image begins to look different then back it off a bit. You should be able to reduce the filesize and loading time by half.
You didn't say what the file format is. You should start by checking the dpi. You don't need more than 72 for web stuff. Print stuff can be 300 or higher, which makes a ridiculously dense image for the web. The picture doesn't look any bigger, but there's a lot more data so the file size is large. Open the image in an image editor and check the size. You can reduce the dpi while maintaining the image dimensions. That will probably do it for you. If it's still too big and it's a jpg, try messing with the compression.
with such a big image file, it is bound to take time. take the help of some image compression software like imageoptimizer to compress the images.
