I am working on a site and i saw some image ads showing e.g. full size banner. I also see text ads on the same place from time to time. Which one gets more clicks and which should be better? Thanks
I also prefer text ads, they have performed better for me, and I feel like they are less distracting/annoying.
Nearly everyone says the same thing... text ads are better. You will se a few topics like this and thats allways what people say
meditang points out a valuable variable - it will depend on your site I think. However, I thought since my female celebrities sight is more about "visual" I thought image ad would do well - they sucked for me. The contextual ads from AS have always outperformed image ads on all of my sites. The best thing to do for your own knowledge though, would be to create some specific channels and try the two side-by-side so to speak and see what does best for you.
This is totally dependent on the site and the type of image ads displayed. If your site has advertisers with good, eye catching image ads, (not those flashing banner style stuff), they can perform just as well, if not better than text ads. Personally though, I prefer text ads seeing as you at least know how they will look and in general they aren't so obvious as image ads.
i also think text ds get more clicks. img ads are rarely targetting the subject you are looking for : not interesting = no click.
i think another point to add is more advertisers use text ads compared to image ads, so if you limit your self to just image ads then u are loosing out on potential high paying text ads also.
The thing is that as soon as I enable the image ads, G sends me images only and forgets about any text ads. I have disabled the image ads but will give it a try as I have text ads on the same page as well.
Text ads in general get more clicks, but image ads do pay more per CPM. Just keep in mind that Google wouldn't serve image ads unless it made you (and them) more money.
I don't see the banners that's a reflex what a I've generated after years of net experience. text ads are always better.

There is also the problem with "instant ad recognition" with image ads that make people avoid to look at it.
Another trick to capture both "types" of people (ones who prefer images and/or text) is to use the TEXT Adsense code, and when designing the page, place a small image of your own directly above the Google Adsense code, something related to the adsense ad. This will draw attention to the text ad and I have found that it has boosted our CTR immensely, because you have control of what image can go above the Adsense Text Link. So basically you are still using a TEXT Ad, but are drawing attention to it with your own image.
