    Hello,

Here are some quotes from Google:
    http://www.google.com/support/adsense/bin/answer.py?answer=9742&topic=143
    http://adwords.blogspot.com/2005/10/image-ad-answers.html

That means that if an image is being shown on your website instead of 3 text ads, then the images ad should be priced better than the text ads.

    I hope this helps

    - Create more number of pages: The more number of pages your website has, the more traffic it will generate. More traffic means more ad impressions and more clicks. Create pages targeting specific keywords and you will see more traffic from search engines.

    - Blend the ads: Don't leave the default ads on. Change the colors to completely blend into your website's layout.

    - Try different ad block combinations: Wider ad blocks usually perform better. However, sometimes smaller blocks may perform good too.

    - Use text ads instead of image ads: Image ads do not perform well because of banner blindness. Text ads, on the other hand, blend well into the content and thus are more interesting to the user.

    - Use the search box: The search box usually performs better. A single search can generate 2-3 clicks or more.

    - Use referrals: AdSense referrals can be an additional source of income. The conversion rate may be lower, but each conversion will generate much more that each click.

    - Don't user borders: Using borders will make the ads more prominent and may reduce the click-through rate.

    - Use images on the webpages: Using images makes the pages to look less spammy and professional. Images may also generate traffic from image search. However, don't use images to bring attention to the ads. This is a violation of the AdSense TOS.

    - Use the maximum number of permitted ad blocks: You are permitted to use 3 text/image blocks, 2 text links and 2 search boxes. Make use of all these variants.

    - Last but not the least, always follow the TOS: If you get your account banned, you won't earn anything!

Image ads, in my opinion, are typically automatically ignored by people - go for text ads, they blend in and look nicer. :)

The only reason for image ads is a) you got smart priced and automatically get the low eCPM image ads, or b) to place them next to text ads. It will draw the users attention and make them click on the ads.

Yes, google automatically displays image ads (when enabled). They are in most cases CPM ads.

text ads are better than image ads because they get a higher ctr and moreover i find that most of the time the image ads are not at all related to my site - so that reduces my ctr to zero . so go on with the text ads,But remember it is always good to xperiment your self with adsense .

I will say it is depend to your webiste. If you website have many photo, then put the image might be better.
However, let say your website dont have any photo, then you might consider text ads

It depends on your site. If you site is more contextual based, then Text ads suits more if you blend them nicely.
If your site is entertainment related, image ads will do well.
