Image Ads - Do they convert better?

I have my default settings for AdSense to do both text and image ads.

    A few questions:

Does anyone know if image ads convert better?

    Do image ads pay better?

I've been reluctant to go "image only" so as not to restrict potentially good ads and conversions, but on my female celebrity site, I'm considering going image only.

Today, when I went to the home page of one of my female celebrity sites, there's an image ad for Hilary Duff's latest album. I have to admit, it's a sharp looking ad - I'm hoping that also means it will grab attention, and hence, CTR; but, it got me thinking about the above questions.

Any input, past experiences and examples would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

I've experienced a higher CPM during periods when I received more image ads so probably they convert better for my type of sites.

Thanks for the feedback downloads_be. I'm hoping that's the case, especially with the hot looking image ad of Hilary Duff that's on the main page of the site I mentioned above. I wouldn't mind a "banner" day - of course, I don't know anybody who wouldn't ... :)

I havent noticed much difference at all when image ads are displayed.
I figured they werent doing much so i disabled them.. i might try them again if you believe they have a higher CPM

I was always under the impression that banner ads are good for branding, but text ads are better for clicking

I've always wondered if they allow such sites. Don't they have something like no image results, etc.? I want to start one also but will the photos be copyrighted material

No offense, but your post seems to make no sense.

FreshDames.com is NOT an adult site and I'm not sure what gave you that impression.

Why would Google AdSense accept my site into the program if it did not meet their TOS?

Google does have a prohibition against AdSense on image results pages, but that is a completely different matter.

You didn't look at the page to which I was referring apparently as it has over 500 words on content and there is nothing "adult" on it.

Animated banners work better for me, here is what I'm using for my current campaigns. Almost double the click-through

I have animation turned off in both FF and IE. I hate animated gif's so much and thanks to anidisable, I never have to see them blink.

No offense also, but you got the wrong impression. I NEVER said your site was "adult", I was referring to the image results, specifically http://lohan.freshdames.com/lohan-gallery1.htm and the fact that you do not own copyrights to the photos but are profiting off them.

I was just wondering if they have any problems with sites like that since they contain copyrighted items. I guess I will just ask them about this issue, don't want to risk getting any neg rep again!

A gallery is not an image result page.

Clicking an image in a gallery that loads the picture by itself is an image result page.

Ah, just what the world needs - another latrine lawyer. Google will be glad to hear from you no doubt.

I am just asking if I make a site like that if it would be in violationn of the TOS. Why the remark?

    To get back on topic...

I run text_image on most of my sites but not in every placement on a page. I think the occasional image ads that show helps to prevent blindness as users go through your site. The square units usually have some quality image ads they pay pretty well.

I think it depends on the topic you have selected.
If topic viewers are teen agers then image ad will convert better.Otherwise text ads are quite good.

I agree with Miranda, image ads works well for certain websites. I have to say that I have had more success with text ads.

Very good point Miranda and this would be a good use of channels for me too. My site is more visual that textual so I think it's worth a little experimentation, I'll set up some channels to test over a few weeks period and see. Heck, if the experiment goes well, I may even inhale :D
