Hi guys! I'm working on custom start page extension for Chrome. Interesting about your reaction, feeling and ideas. preview: latest version: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/homey-new-tab-with-live-w/lllnjdmfnfjifcfpppjmcnanpokikcpl https://homey-app.online/
Actually looks neat, but I am wondering if there's a real use case behind it. I mean, why would a user install it, what are the USPs?
As a programming exercise, it's pretty cool and I'm sure you've learned a lot. Personally I wouldn't use it, the default chrome new tab is enough. I have 3 screens: messaging and ftp personal chrome, programming tools work chrome
Harry PAO Main feature is bookmarks. They synchronized with native chrome bookmarks. Unlike the default page, you can store a large number of bookmarks on the start page, use folders (native chrome bookamarks folders), add bookmarks to the start page instantly with one click by clicking on the star in the browser address bar And of course you can search your bookmarks in the search bar (which for some reason still hasn’t been implemented by google). Google has benefits from you when you the search, so bookmarks are implemented at such a low level. I tried to fix this in extension.
Good job, I still don't see any hot use case on it to be honest. Have you validated with potential users? Personally I find the user journey of picking an app from a (neat I must admin) icon drawer much slower than typing in the search bar. Also, the recall path is totally different when you want to search the web or your bookmarks (Ctrl + Shift + O and search away...) In any case, good job and good lucj! I hope you learned a lot during development of such an extension
