expired domains have no value these days they will loose their pr in the next update , the best thing would be to register a new domain and build links for that domain there are various way to do so for example just one 3PR5 links could get u PR2+ 3PR6 -> PR4+ (iam not very sure abt this someone correct me if i am wrong)

    just one PR7 will get you PR6 , a PR6 domain is worth min 700$ !!!

if a owner of a popular site domain runs out and you buy they would offer you double of what you paid maybe even more. would save them from sending messages to all his "users"

Domaining is not only about selling domain names with PR. It is about having the right domain name with you for the right buyer ;)

You can even register freshly available domain names and make money from it.

    Mydeuter,

Becoming a domainer is not an easy process. It requires a lot of thinking and making decisions. My advice is READ BEFORE YOU BUY! Don't buy domains that you think are good, buy domains you think others are good. For example, my blog: fka200.com is not worth CRAP to anyone except for myself. I bought it anyways. Now compare fka200.com vs cars.com... and fka200 = 0$ cars.com = millions$$ because it can be used by a LOT of people.

READ READ READ! I wasted a lot of money buying useless domains. Now there are some that are tempting, but I don't buy. Just reg'd a domain last month that has already had 1,000 uniques. Good traffic domains are HARD to find... you need to do a lot of research.

Also, for those buying domains for the sake of making money by selling, PARK THEM:

Try to stick to .coms but if you find a good keyword on a different TLD then don't be afraid to buy.

You are better off putting all your money into one good domain than have a 1000 worthless or near worthless domains

Stick to your niche, that is your specialty field. That is a field of interest you know something about.

Go for keywords or a combination of keywords with high volume searches. Try to stick to one word domain names, two at most. Most three word domain names are useless.

Stay away from domain hacks, hyphens and numbers.

Register your domain the right way. Go with a reputable domain name registrar. Nothing worse than losing your domain because they go out of business.

After a while, take your best domain name and get it professionally appraised. That will give you an idea on the ceiling of the rest of your domains.

As above - read read read!

You will hear long-time domainers praising keyword traffic domains as if there were no other option worth buying. Well, I think that is often poor advice because those domains rarely are sold, and when they are it takes many years of experience to know what to pay for them. So if you "buy one great name" before you know what you are doing you probably will seriously overpay.

Get into this slowly - Take a look at drop lists to get an idea of what NOT to buy - someone paid good money for each one of those domains, sometimes paid renewals, and finaly realised that they were just junk.

Go ahead and reg one or two if you want, things look a lot different once you have your own domain, but read a lot before you do even that.

There are no hard rules but there are some things that usually hold true:
Short and one word domains are better than long mixed up ones.
Overture is your best friend, Google is second. Get to know the numbers on lots of available names to get a feel of what is good.
Stick to .Com at first. If you go into other extensions later, remember that a domain needs much better keyword(s) on a lesser extension to have the same value as a .com.

Before buying any name for resale think: "Could a profitable website be built on this name?" There is no other valid reason to buy a domain for resale. And you do not need many vanity websites.

And no, I do not follow all of this myself, so relax and enjoy it.

Without a doubt, the best guide for a beginner is DomainSellingManual.com
The best resource to find expired domains would be FilteredDomains.com
