Like the title says, I am undergoing surgery where I will be completely under. Anyone have hints for getting through the nervousness? ;P

What sort of surgery is it?
Really don't worry about it. If you're fit and healthy your chances of surviving the general anaesthetic are at least 75%.

Well, do something that completely occupies you to the extent that you can't even think about surgery, or sleep.
Don't read because it'll just make you think about it more. Pray maybe?
    Good luck. :)

Dont worry buddy!! Since ear has our body balancing system so I guess they will give you anesthesia not the local one and then after surgery only you will come to know that you are actually on your bed and evry bad thing has gone away!! :)

I hope they don't cut off your ear, only to find out they made a mistake and cut off the wrong one.

Good luck mate. and don't be nervous. Accidents during surgeries like never happen. I had a surgery couple of weeks ago on my angle. They had to staple my bones together. Trust me, surgeries aren't as bad as they sound.

Oh yeah, I've heard of that happening. Like, they'll amputate a leg from someone who went in for a simple surgery (such as to get rid of a chronic ear infection) and then realize later when it's too late...

    But I'm sure you'll be fine... :]

I had knee surgery a few years ago. It was easy. They asked me which one was the right one to operate on and they marked both of them clearly. They did that just before they gave me something to relax. I think it was liquid Valium. Later on they did the spinal block for the pain and finally they gave me another shot of the valium. After the meds, I cound't feel anything and didn't care what they did down there. I actually went to natural sleep for a little while.

I didn't have any control over what happened, so I released it. I trusted the doctors and had faith that everything would be fine.

My knee hasn't given me any trouble at all since the operation. Sure it took a while to heal but after that it's been just as strong as the other knee.

I hope things go as well for you as they did for me.

    Good luck

The surgery is over, they found it was actually an open pocket under the ear and closed it. It hurts like Hell..but I'll live :)

Good stuff. I had surgery last year where I was completely under. I was scared as hell when I went in, but I loved the drugs they gave me afterwards. I'd go back for more anyday.

I'll never forget waking up in a drug induced haze and listening to the nurses talking about how to make nori rolls.
