    Hey guys.

I have zero experience with programming and coding. I've never done anything of the sort in my life. However, I am eager to learn and teach myself it, like I did with many of my other hobbies. I do know a bit of HTML, but in these days of the Internet, most people do so it doesn't really matter.

I'm wondering, what should I focus on if I want to be able to create sites like formspring.me, flippa.com, fmylife.com, and twitter.com? Nothing extraodinarily complicated, but still slightly difficult. I mean, I don't want to spend all my time learning some language, only to find out later that it has nothing to do with what I want to create.

    Thanks.

HTML and CSS for the layout and PHP or ASP for the back-end.

You need do learn one programming language like ASP.net ,php, jsp etc. You must have learn HTML for the design. One more thing is you must have a deep knowledge of one of database language like MSSQL,MYSQL ,oracle etc...
