A non-event for the majority of the world.
No need to party when an evil person dies.

Snakes and Dinosaurs are also evil, but we are very interested in study them. The sunlight is also evil if we get too much, but it would be empty without it.

Some men do not deserve to have their passing noted. The only disappointment being expressed by most of the world is that he did not live long enough for his trial to finish, so the result could be known, and any potential precendets set for dealing with future leaders of countries gone bad.

It would have been news if he had still been in power at the time of his death.

    Nobody remembers a loser.

To be honest with you, it's probably better this way because they never would have made the charges stick.

They made the mistake of slapping him with something like 64 seperate charges, it's almost impossible to get him on the majority of them and that's why the trial would have lasted another decade... without a concrete conviction.

If the Hague chose only a few select charges to convict him on they would have had less problems, but Milosevic is a lot smarter than most give him credit for and thats why he managed to avoid getting convicted for so long. The end result is the same, lets face it, nobody honestly expected him to come out ALIVE did they? I certainly didn't.

somewhere i read that tribunal cost around $500,000,000 out of which $200,000,000 was spent on Milosevic....even if this is not exactly accurate, Slobo still screwed them good, spent good money on him and then he dies on them.

and the sad thing is, even with all that against him, he was doing really good at the trial (judging by some of court transcripts i saw)

That is a major understatement... there is NO way they would have made any of the charges stick. He was way to good for them and that's why they had to bring the trial to an end (one way or another).

Like I said above, the major problem is that they were over ambitious when laying down the charges. They should have stuck to just a few that they could have QUICKLY and easily nailed him for, then they'd have all the time in the world to get rid of him out of sight.

Oh well, in the end I guess it's still "mission accomplished".

They way prosecutors work is the charge you with every possible crime, in the hopes of making a percentage of them stick.

It's no different in Den Haag than it is in your local traffic court.
