I'm stuck. Horrible host, down for 48hrs+, unreliable. How do I pick up and move?

I'm extremely frustrated right now. Many downtimes and this is horrible right now being down for 48hours+ and no phone or ticket support. I know there are many great hosts out there now.

My question is, how painful is it going to be to move my sites? I have about 6 main large sites and 15 subdomain site which are smaller. Of course I have email addresses attached to each one. 2 forums to worry about, but I have full backups from a week ago.

I'm just nervous about switching and the downtime involved in switching. Can anyone relate to my problem or have recent experience on moving their sites? I would be grateful for any advice you folks could offer me.

Ive used hostgator and apthost and both seem very good, i have a reseller account with both companies and a dual core dedi box with hostgator, i have very little down time and no down time at all with the dedi box so try either of them.

if you have backups of all sites then it not too much trouble moving, just upload your backups to a new hosting account and update your nameservers.

Thanks. I'm wondering about moving forums. If I have say, a full backup of my smf forums, if I just install a new smf forums on a new server, I simply use my backup and that will have all my members and threads? Lastly, if I have email accounts such as contact@mydomain.com, how does it work when I switch servers? As usual, I'm grateful for assistance.

as long as you dont have any add-ons for your smf forum you can just install a default copy and import the DB and that will be as it was before, then either set up a catch all email address or specific email address's with the new host.

Just move your file backups of your forum, CHMOD any files or folders you may have to change, update the DB info if necessary and import your backed up database using MySQL.
