Yesterday, I refused my first paid listing on my Bid Directory. It was a casino site and looked rather spammy, so I refused it . How many sites (per month, say) do you refuse in your directory? I know Matt Cutts says around 1/4 to be accepted by google, I'm on about 1/7ths at the moment.
I have little faith in bidding directory as of now. Well, if you have strong belief and hard work, you will be successful in what you do. Cheers,
yeah! i have refunded a lot! I have mentioned in my faq and about us pages that i don't accept casino links! still i get plenty of those, so i keep deleting them, and as you can see, there is no casino links in harmu.com, also adult, MFA etc sites are also deleted and refunded!! I want harmu.com to be family friendly, that's why i delete those sites! regards, Uttoransen!
Sorry if I'm offtopic, but I have a question...there are so many new directories everyday, just a quick peek over to solicitations and announcements section of DP shows at least 5-10 new directories on a daily basis, all of them claiming to be family friendly, no gambling, MFA, etc. As one can conclude from this thread, there are actually many submissions from that forbidden group, so my question would be...has anyone tried to run directory that would accept these "forbidden" sites? I mean, for someone looking for a quick buck (and given the fore mentioned amount of new directories every day and generally low quality of most of them I would dare to say that there are many in this category)... maybe starting "family unfriendly" directory could be possibly better option than to run family friendly directory for them? Or people who submit that spammy sites, don't even bother to submit to "low quality directories" but stray on submitting only to good directories instead? No, I don't have any plans on my mind, but I'm just curious
Hello... We allow whatever we want in our network and will accept any sites that we deem worthy. We dont cater to any one search engine nor shall we be told by any SE what we can and cant do... But on average 2-3 daily are rejected thx malcolm
Agree with Malcom. Most of the time every shitty directory when advertise start saying "seo friendly" or "family friendly". What is family friendly ? What does it means exactly? No Gambling? No sex sites? Gambling and sex are part of our lives for christ sake! I do gamble sometimes and I think everyone makes sex... With all respects...I've seen gambling or sex sites much more user friendly, much more useful resources than most of the directories announced next door. Wouldn't you accept this site in your directory just because it's related to gambling? There are a lot of useful news and articles for its niche so ...would you consider it not good enough for your directory? ... and by the way... it comes second in Google for the keyword "gambling" out of 50 million results. From my point of view...every useful and relevant site for its niche worth being included in every directory
Of course not. I might be wrong but I think every such website has a sort of warning on the main page. Also what I have stated above it is my personal opinion I do not encourage anyone to add these sort of websites...it's up to every webmaster...
Hey Rhys, I refuse most. You have to do that. I've been to bid dir's before seen casino and clicked the x. Same happens for all Dir's I'd assume
Malcolm and Loredan, thanx for your replies - have to agree that you have good point - if submitted site is quality resource for visitor, there's no actual reason for not accepting it. Even most authoritative directories like yahoo dir which is recommended by google, has gambling section..so I guess it can't be that wrong. Well to be honest, I'm currently defining submission guidelines for my first directory and don't want to screw it up from the very beginning, so every opinion is much appreciated.
i agree with loredan and malcom on the gambling aspect as for the sex sites i am not so sure.like gambling all the sites i aprove is the one that gives informations to the gambling sites and not actually gamble in this site.If sex sites doing the same.sugest some sex resources and review them without having anything porn on the site the link going to be i will aprove it also.
- That is funny, how do you think Google knows how many sites you reject? What it really comes down to is personal opionions, some directories don't accept sex, gambling or many other types of sites. I would not accept sites showing nudity but I think things like adult gifts and discussion/information sites are fine. Just do whatever you feel comfortable with, remember Google and the other search engines index all these sites so your bar will always be higher than them even if you only reject a few listings a year.
A gambling related site is not always a casino. An adult site is not always porn. A child counts as 17. 17 year olds can have sex in most countries, legally that is. There is always some discrepency with the sites submitted, its up to the directory editor to decide. Matt cutts maybe thinks that 1/4 of the internet is spam and therefore 1/4 of submitted sites represents that ratio. who knows
