btw does anyone else get this from time to time? I do every now and then ill get like position 2 out of a keyword which comes back about 8 million results but i mean i never seen traffic from google, mabe like 2-3% i know its not the best keyword in the world to get traffic from but out of that many results should i see a big traffic spike?

btw once your staying on the top page for your keyword can you basically forget about digg and all the other second hand traffic stuff? will google be bringing in your traffic for you?

Godaddy says: GOOGLEBUMPS.COM is available! Kinda catchy term there ;)

Being a lot of results does not mean at all there are a lot of searches. Check the keyword with overture to see its searches.

Indeed. Although I am now at number one on Google, the traffic that came from it is sort of disappointing.

Check here http://www.keyworddiscovery.com/search.html and see how many searches it shows.

George, you ignored my question, and I'd really like to know if you could share please. It might help some others here understand about the common misconception of number of results equalling competition.

How many results are there for:

[allinanchor:"keyphrase"] (drop the brackets but keep the quotes)

Sorry I must have missed it. There are 97 results

That shows that only 97 people have linked to their website using that exact anchor text. What about without the quotes?

Without the quotes the result jumps to 729k results.

    Update:

I'm still No 1 for this particular keyphrase and even better I am No 1 on the big 3 (Yahoo, Google, MSN). No traffic though from this keyword.

I did begin to receive traffic from Google and MSN, but for entirely different keywords. This began about 2 days ago and the keyphrases have about the same competition, but enjoy some popularity.

    Regards, George

Have you tried just running your keyphrase with quotes around it in Google? e.g. "key phrase" - That will tell you how many websites contain the exact keyphrase. My guess is not more than a couple of thousand ;)
