I'm not selling anything; is adwords a good idea?

I have a new site ( math20.com ) and I need to get more traffic. What I'm offering on the site is free so I'm wondering if adwords would still be a good idea.

You can get traffic with AdWords. If you're not expecting to make any $ then you won't be disappointed:)

Most likely no. Every site is different...test it out with a small budget and see how it goes.

As GuyFromChicago says, test it out. That's the beauty of AdWords. You can control your spend and test ideas for a reasonable fee.

Yeah I agree with bpcombs, use Adwords to test out the different offers and topics that your website offers.
More specifically, you can use the ad creative to test out different wording on your topics such as different topic titles.

I wouldn't say it's a good idea. You could find something worth much more for your money. Let's say you have a game site, and want traffic. Well if you tried to advertise it on adwords, you'll most likely have to be paying above 50 cents a click for decent volume keywords. So let's say you drive 1000 clicks; that would be $500. 1000 visitors isn't really enough to get your site to be more known, or that much more active. But if you took that $500; and brought monthly ad spots on several medium-high traffic websites; you'll get much more for your money, and brand your site more.

For a keyword like "maths tutorials, you can easily rank between 1-3 position for a bid of 6-7 cents for search network. And for content network, it will be much lower. So, i don't think, putting adwords for such a site is a bad idea because in any case, only adwords can get you a large amount of targeted traffic in a short period of time. You can take it as a long term investment.
