Hi, Can you have a look at this SERP: http://www.google.com/search?q=set+cron+job My site is www.setcronjob.com, registered @ 2009-01-31, but it can't be #1, although it's a domain name with that keyword: Set Cron Job!!! What should I do now???
Keep building inbound links with anchor text of "set cron job". Try changing your page title to set cron job free ... as i did a google search for set up free cron jobs and you came #1. If you want #1 for the phrase "set cron job" then this phrase should be in your page title. To be fair tho, you also rank #2 for the phrase "free cron jobs" which is not too bad.
Having the keyword in the domain name is nice, but its not required and no promise that your going to get to the first place of google. Go to google and do a search for webmaster forum. The #1 and #2 results should be v7n and digital point. Neither one of those sites has "webmaster forum" anywhere in the name. My suggestion is for you to build content that is related to your sites topic. And build more backlinks with your targeted keywords in them. Also, try to get links from sites that are related to your sites topic.
Just because your domain is keyword1keyword2keyword3.com does not mean you should rank #1 for searches for "keyword1 keyword2 keyword3". Go to Google and search for "tree". Note where tree.com a PR5 site ranks. They are like 8th if you count the news results as 1 listing. There are lots of things you could do to help your page rank for "set cron job". If this is the main keyword phrase you want rank for then I suggest: 1) "set cron job" should appear first in your <title> 2) all additional keyword phrases in the <title> should be slight variations of the targeted keyword phrase "set cron job" like "setup cron job" and/or "setting up cron jobs" Viewing Google Insights I can see that "set cron job" gets the most searches followed by "cron job setup" and "setup cron job"... Note also that "setup" is used more than "set up"... and that "setup" and "set up" are both used more than "setting up"... (you have to do several searches w/ Insights with several combinations of words to get the feel for which get the most searches). So I would probably go with something like: Notice I've worked a lot of keyword phrases and keywords into the title in order of importance... Set Cron Job - Setup Cron Job - Setting Up Cron Jobs Set Cron Job - Setup Cron Job - Setting Up Cron Jobs Set Cron Job - Setup Cron Job - Setting Up Cron Jobs Set Cron Job - Setup Cron Job - Setting Up Cron Jobs I included the last keyword phrase "Setting Up Cron Jobs" even though "setting up" and "jobs" get significantly fewer searches than the others because there are still a significant number of searches w/ "setup", "setting up" and "jobs" (plural) and these may be less competitive and easier to rank for. Plus Google knows that "setting" is related to "set" and that "jobs" is the plural form of "job" so they will still help you rank for "set" and "job" (singular) even though they are slight variations of the words. Your home page has no <h1> or <h2> elements... You are missing out on a BIG opportunity to help your page rank by omitting these elements. <h1> is the 2nd most important on-page ranking factor... <h2> is the 3rd most important, etc... EVERY page on your site should have an <h1> that targets your primary keyword phrase for that page (or a slight variation>... So perhaps you should add an <h1> header element to the home page like: Notice I don't worry so much about the <h1> EXACTLY matching my main targeted keyword phrase... just that it contains all of the words from the main targeted keyword phrase "set cron job". It also gets the word "free" in one of my important on-page SEO HTML elements . I would suggest adding content to your home page and figuring out how to work in a few <h2>s as well... Maybe with values like: I typically use the <h2>s to reinforce not only the primary keyword phrase, but also the secondary and tertiary keyword phrases (if applicable).
having the keyword in the domain helps a lot but not enough to secure #1 position if there are competitors. you need a proper link building campaign to get there. when you build backlinks, dont just target your main keyword and use couple of other secondary keyword to point to your domain otherwise google will find over optimization and send you to sandbox. use your main keyword for majority of backlinks and secendary keywords once in a while. how many backlinks you will need will depend on your competition
