If I am in the right spot... Please help me try to understand how some of these things work. Channels and CPC... If a CPC is $1.00 what does that mean to me? Also I have had some clicks that didn't pay a thing... How does that work. I know these are silly questions however I'm a beginner...

What nachonija said (I'm eating nacho's now actually).

But to get you off to a flying start...

The advertisers pays the CPC, if that is $1 then you, the publisher, will get between 0 and 80% of that $1.

Clicks that didn't pay were either invalid (you clicked your own ad or Google thought it was robot generated etc.) or it was on a CPM ad. CPM being that the advertiser pays per impression, not per click.

A click that doesn't get you any money can also be public service ads that google displays when there is no ad to display. You can avoid displaying public service ads and use an alternate color or an alternate url (with another ad from another company, like cj.com)

Channels are created in adsense administration in order to have better statistics about the performance of individual ad units, so you can draw conclusion and improve your ad placement and your CTR.

DigitalForum is a good place to start, if only for its big archive of post about adsense, you can find answers to every question you can have as a beginner.

You can also have your website reviewed adsense wise, but only after you've read and tried to place your ads correctly first.
